Bokashi

Bokashi kitchen composting is a simple and smart way to recycle food waste and turn it into soil and fertilizer without any chemicals. With the help of microorganisms, all common food waste such as meat, vegetables and coffee grounds are quickly and odorlessly converted into soil improvement that can be directly used in the flowerbed and kitchen garden.

It gives the soil new life and helps to grow more lush vegetation. Carbon is sequestered in the soil instead of becoming carbon dioxide and nutrients are retained.

All you need is an airtight bucket with a lid under the kitchen counter and a bag of Bokashi straw. You won’t have to deal with nasty bags of slush and you won’t have to run back and forth to your outdoor compost. It costs a couple of hundred kronor a year, but you usually save much more by reducing waste collection and buying planting soil and plant nutrients.
