Stormwater is rainwater or meltwater runoff from roofs, roads, parking lots, etc. that flows through ditches or pipes into lakes, rivers, or is directed to wastewater treatment plants.

When it rains heavily, problems can arise in dealing with stormwater. Often there are pollutants that stormwater can carry and it is then inappropriate to discharge it into lakes and rivers.

Roof runoff is usually not so polluted that it needs to be treated, but the most important thing is to slow down the flow of water on your own property. Most small house plots have the possibility to delay and take care of their stormwater or to collect it in rainwater tanks.

In most cases, stormwater from hard surfaces must be retained at the surface by means of retention basins. In large parking areas, areas for the transportation of dangerous goods or where the surfaces are highly polluted, sludge or oil separators must also be provided.
