It is advisable to check the condition of the filter at regular intervals by lifting the lid and checking the surface of the filter (after 60 days of use, this should be done once a week).
At the same time, check the pH of the outgoing water (e.g. use pH-Fix 0-14, available from your local pharmacy). If the pH is lower than 8, it indicates that the phosphorus trap filter granules are losing their phosphorus-binding properties and need to be replaced.
