Ventilation of drains

One of the most common problems with sewage plants is poor ventilation.
The role of ventilation is to ensure that oxygen is supplied to the process and that bad odors are ventilated away.

Always strive to have open ventilation at both ends of the system.
Ventilation of the system takes place via the sludge separator and the ventilation trunk of the pipes in the house.
Through so-called chimney action, self-draught will occur. In this way, air is sucked into the plant. To reduce the risk of odors, the ventilation pipe should end above the roof ridge and its dimension should be at least 75 mm.

If you want to increase ventilation, you can use fans.

Smoke testers can be used to check the function in a simple way.

NOTE! The ventilation trunk must open freely into the air without, for example, a vacuum valve.
Vacuum valves do not provide ventilation but only let in air at negative pressure, they are used, for example, in apartments when you want to prevent the water traps from being emptied of water when flushing.

If you have problems with odors, it is good to use carbon filters or odor traps.

When pumping, it is important that the ventilation through the entire
sewer system still works. Extra ventilation pipes are needed through
the pumping wells.
