All about infiltration and soil beds

The ground-based system solutions are generally considered to meet the normal level of protection, with the exception of the soil bed, which often needs extra phosphorus treatment in some municipalities.

This is a robust and well-proven technology

From the house, the wastewater is first led to a sludge separator (mechanical treatment). From there, the wastewater is led or pumped to an infiltration. As the dirty water infiltrates, a biofilm of bacteria forms in the soil just below the spreader pipes. The bacteria break down pollutants and contaminants (biological treatment). The treatment of phosphorus takes place via the attachment and chemical binding to soil particles in the bed (chemical treatment).

The treated wastewater then goes down to the groundwater. It is very important that an infiltration system is placed and designed correctly, otherwise there is a risk that the treatment will not work, which could lead to contamination of your or your neighbors’ drinking water well. Infiltration is not suitable for all sites, as treatment requires the right kind of soil conditions.

Self-falling is common, but if you need to place the spreader pipes so that self-falling is not possible, it is possible to pump out the wastewater. Pumping takes place after sludge separation.
