At the same time, it enables efficient post-treatment, which can also serve as an additional purification step, for example, when strict discharge limits are required.

The Compact Coconut Bed sets new standards for truly sustainable filtration of biologically treated wastewater. Its coconut-based filter material ensures highly effective soil protection while remaining fully accessible for monitoring and maintenance, ensuring long-term operation.

Additionally, the Compact Coconut Bed serves as an effective post-treatment solution, adaptable as a complementary purification stage when stringent environmental regulations must be met.

The replaceable and fully recyclable filter material makes the Compact Coconut Bed a sustainable and eco-friendly solution. It is available for 4 to 50 inhabitants, either as a post-treatment stage with a discharge pipeline or with direct filtration through an underlying layer of drainage gravel.

How Does a Compact Coconut Bed Work?

The compact coconut bed is connected to a small secondary treatment plant as a third treatment stage for household wastewater, ideally for small batches (50 liters). A distribution pipe spreads the water over the surface of the coconut filter, from where it slowly percolates through the medium. The treated water can then either infiltrate directly into the ground (open soil) or be discharged through a pipe. This makes the compact coconut bed a complementary, passive, and robust natural wastewater treatment system.

The compact coconut bed ensures that an additional 50 to 80% of the remaining organic pollutants (both particulate and dissolved) are biologically and physically captured in the filter bed and broken down aerobically.

Like all products in the Ecoflo family, the compact coconut bed relies on the unique filtration properties of coconut substrate. The 100% organic coconut substrate is a highly porous and water-retaining medium (comparable to a sponge), which promotes the formation of a filtering biofilm. It also enhances the horizontal distribution of wastewater within the medium. The filter material is virtually clog-free, ensuring long-lasting performance.
